Deck Replacement in
Licking County, Ohio

Full teardown and rebuild — we remove your old deck, inspect the ledger and structure, pull the permit, and build new. Most Licking County homes we replace have decks 15–25 years old that are past repair.

When Repair Isn't
the Right Answer

Most Licking County decks that need replacement were built in the 1990s and early 2000s. At 15 to 25 years old, they've often been through hundreds of freeze-thaw cycles, years of moisture exposure, and surface maintenance that was either skipped or couldn't catch up with what was happening underneath.

Full replacement gives you a clean start: new footings, new framing, properly flashed ledger, and the option to upgrade to composite if you're staying in the house long-term. The permitting and inspection process for a replacement is the same as for a new build — we handle it all.

When we tear out an old deck in Licking County, we always inspect the ledger connection and the house rim joist before we start building the new one. Improperly flashed ledgers cause water infiltration into the house framing — something you want to know about and fix while you have the deck off.
  • Complete teardown and debris removal
  • Ledger and house framing inspection before rebuild
  • All new footings drilled below frost line
  • Material upgrade options at estimate
  • Permit pulled, inspection passed on every job

What We Do Before
the First Board Goes Down

When we tear out an old deck, we don't just start framing. We inspect the house at the ledger location — checking for rot in the rim joist, verifying the ledger was properly flashed, and assessing whether the house framing has absorbed moisture damage.

We also assess the old footing locations. Sometimes existing footings can be reused if they're at proper depth and in good condition. More often, we're drilling new ones — but that's always the right call over building on footings that have shifted or settled.

We've seen replacement projects where the old deck ledger wasn't bolted at all — just screwed into the siding. That's a safety issue and a water infiltration issue. Getting that right during replacement is one of the most important things we do.
  • New poured concrete footings below frost line
  • House rim joist inspected and repaired if needed
  • Ledger properly bolted and flashed
  • Full framing to current Ohio Residential Code
  • Material choice: composite upgrade or pressure-treated
